ABOUT THE CHALLENGE

This challenge is the GDSC at UVA's version of Google's National Solution Challenge competition. Students will be working in teams to try and solve a critical problem that exists in the local Charlottesville area that relates to the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

GET STARTED

We will begin the competition on February 12, 2024, with an introductory meeting. Students are encouraged to work with a partner and we will be helping to pair people up by interest.

Requirements

WHAT TO SUBMIT

If your project is on GitHub, you MUST submit a GitHub link to the project that you are working on. If you project does not use GitHub for some reason, you MUST provide a Google Drive link to project resources that you can provide to us.

For all submissions, you MUST make a short video (<=5 minutes) explaining your project and how it would be helpful in solving a local challenge.

Judging Criteria

  • UN Sustainability Goals
    Does the submission establish a clear challenge they are trying to solve? Does the submission address the challenge identified? Is it explained clearly which UN Sustainable Development goals and targets they chose for their submissions and why?
  • Implementation
    Does the submission implement all the technical components needed to solve the proposed challenge? Does the video demonstration show an actual working application (not a mockup)?
  • Documentation
    Did the team include a well-documented system that clients could adapt to their needs?Does the team clearly describe the following: architecture, high-level components, responsibility of each component, specific products and platform they implemented?
  • Future Extension
    Can the solution, in its current form or minor structural changes, support more users and increased scale? Is there evidence of next steps or a plan for future extensions of the project?
